Girls Basketball Team Goes 12-0 in Region Tournament
The Lady Tigers basketball team went undefeated in the region games this year( 2012-2013), because of their hard work and dedication.
Meagan tucker, a senior at Alcovy says, “Our team goals were to win a state championship so that we could make history at Alcovy, because no team has won a state championship, and to become region champs.” The Lady Tigers accomplished one of the goals, and that was to become region champs.
When asking Ashley Williams about their preparation for becoming region champs, and making it to the sweet sixteen, she replied, “We worked hard, and practiced every day during the week, and on most Saturday mornings.”
Kaci Palo, one of the five seniors on the Lady Tigers basketball team say’s that basketball has helped her become a better person and helped her focus more on school because if she did not have good grades, then she would not be able to play.
“It felt great to be region champs, but I really wanted to win a state championship”, says Meagan Tucker. Winning a state championship was the Lady Tigers main goal, and they were very close to accomplishing it. They were able to host first rounds of the state playoff’s here at Alcovy, as a result of winning the region championship.
There were five seniors on the Lady Tigers basketball team (Kia Sorrells, Kaci Palo, Meagan Tucker, Ashley Williams, and Jasmine Hodges), and they all played a huge role in participating in the sport. All of the seniors felt like they had a wonderful season, and they were proud at what they were able to accomplish to make their fans proud.

Students Participate in Work-Study program at Alcovy
Students at Alcovy are able to work and attend school at the same time, because they feel as if working at a young age prepares them for the future and gives them more spending money.
Cierra Deville, a senior at Alcovy, works at Chuck E. Cheese, an arcade full of entertainment for children. “I love my job because there are lots children involved, and the pay is great”, says Cierra.
When asking Cierra her purpose in getting a job, she replied, “I wanted to save money for college and myself so that I would not have to depend so much on my parents.”
Working at fast food restaurants, and at grocery stores are the main jobs that teens have because both jobs work around the school schedules, move quickly, and they are great first jobs for students that are still in school.
Most teenagers like to spend money on shopping, entertainment, going places, and eating out. They want to be able to buy the things they want whenever they want them, and that is why most teens want to start working early.
Being able to be in school, and have a job deals a lot with managing your time. Learning how to manage your time early could help many teens when it is their time to go off to college. “Getting off of work late, having to come home and do school work, and waking up for school on time in the morning is quite exhausting”, says Cierra.
Teenagers often want to make their own money so that they will not have to rely on their parents, and so that they can have their own money without being nagged by their parents.

Christina Roderick, Editor
Hello, hello. I’m Christina Roderick. I’m a senior at Alcovy and an Editor for the PawPrint. I started out as a staff writer last year and worked my way through the ranks with my fabulous writing and bold opinions. Since my opinions are so bold it is only natural that I write mostly Op-Eds. I dabble in the other sections of the newspaper, as well, but Op-Eds are my strong suit. Along with the PawPrint, I am an officer in the Alcovy Anchor Club. I do a lot of community service work with them. When I’m not working with the Anchor Club, I dedicate most of my time to studying for the four AP classes I decided to take on this year. Sadly, this will be my last year on the PawPrint staff, as I will be graduating in May. I hope to go to UGA or GSU to study veterinary medicine and zoology. I’ve thought about minoring in journalism, but we’ll see were life takes me

Hello, my name is Lakeiyah Sorrells and I am a contributor to the PawPrint for the 2012-2013 school year. This is my first year being in Journalism. I love writing Sports and Alcovy Angle stories. Being in Journalism has really taught me a lot about writing. I am a senior at Alcovy High school, and I play both basketball and softball. After graduation, I plan on attending college at Tuskegee University, Alabama State, or Savannah State to play softball. When I go to college I plan on majoring in Sports Medicine. I have always wanted to major in Sports Medicine because I feel like that job would really fit me best. This is a little information on myself, and I look forward to a great year for the AHS PawPrint.

Chelsea Henry, Contributer
Hello! I am Chelsea Henry. This is my first year being apart of the PawPrint staff. I would say I’m most comfortable writing Op Ed’s because, even though the word count is more, you get to express your opinions without getting in trouble over it. I would say the profession I want to do when I’m older is to basically be a writer of some sort. Whether its journalism or being a novelist, it’s just something that I am really passionate about. When it comes to colleges, I want to stay here in Georgia but away from my parents and far away from Covington. I am thinking that I want to go to places like Spellman, Clark Atlanta, or Georgia State College, somewhere in the Atlanta city area where it’s full of interesting people. I hope that I stay a part of PawPrint until I graduate because this is actually fun.

Olympia Hawk, Contributor
Hello. My name is Olympia Hawk, and I am a contributor to the PawPrint this year. Writing OpEds is my preference because I have a tongue for speaking against topics that most will not dare to speak. My future, though, will not consist of journalism. I will prefer becoming a musician. Either way I need writing skills. I plan to adopt some here at the PawPrint. First, I must attend a college that is right for me, but I have no idea what college I want to go to, unfortunately. I know that I should perhaps invest in the opportunity given to me but this is not the end for me or the last time you will hear my name. There is a calling in me and I cannot ignore it. Doing so will make it wax extremely loud within me.

Hey! My name is Taylor Staples. I am new to the newspaper this year and so far I enjoy it. I am looking forward to becoming a better writer and learning more about news. Already, I can see a change in myself, becoming more involved in news and politics. You will find most of my stories in the sports section; I love sports and anything to do with them. My two favorite sports to play are softball and volleyball. However, baseball has always been my favorite sport to watch. When I graduate, I want to attend either Gordon College or Valdosta State to become a pediatric nurse. I love kids and helping people, so that would be a perfect career for me. Also, I love music because it is my inspiration and I can always find a song that relates what I am going through in life.

Hola! My name is Channa Hoskins, and I am a contributor for the PawPrint for the 2012-2013 school year. When I first heard about journalism I thought it was all about writing and nothing in this class would be fun. I really did not see myself as a writer until I actually started to write in this class. I enjoy journalism and being able to express my points and views. I am in love with the University of Kansas, but if I am not able to attend there I will be interested in attending University of South Carolina. I am not sure if I will be doing journalism in college, but I am beginning to strongly consider it if forensic science does not work out. I look forward to this year’s newspaper and seeing all the exciting ideas and topics they have to offer.

Hey there, my name is Leslie Shelnutt, and I am one of the four editors on the AHS PawPrint! Last year was my first year on the newspaper staff; I was just a staff writer. I am a senior, so sadly this is my last year working with the newspaper, which I have loved so much! I am looking forward to graduation, and I plan to attend GPC and work my way up to the University of West Georgia. I am excited to see what the journalism staff does as a whole this year, and if this interests you maybe it is something that you will consider being a part of next year. If there are any questions that you have do not be afraid to just stop and ask me in the hallway.

Jonathan Pritchard, Contributor
Hello there, my name is Jonathan Pritchard, and I am a contributor to the PawPrint newsletter. This is my first year working for the newspaper and my third year at Alcovy. So far I’m really enjoying it. The work is time consuming and tough, but the overall feeling of knowing I completed a story makes it worthwhile. I enjoy listening to and creating music, doing evil things with my posse (we’re usually being lazy or having band practice), and just talking to people in general. I’m currently undecided on what I want to do in college, with my main goals being in the music industry, the video game industry, and the medical field. For my senior year, I plan on going on a road trip all the way to California, and moving to Japan when I get older. I’m usually easy-going, and I plan to work hard on what I contribute to the PawPrint.

My name is Amanda Adams. I am in 11thgrade. Tthis is my first year on PawPrint at Alcovy High School. So far I
am really enjoying it. Outside of school and writing for PawPrint, I enjoy cheerleading, gymnastics, hanging out with friends, going to football games, and going deer hunting. I love to dance and listen to music. When I leave Alcovy I want to go to University Of West Georgia to become a kindergarten teacher. I am still undecided about moving away from my family and friends because we are so close. Before I go to college, I want to go outside of Georgia and maybe go to Flordia for a year because I love the beach. I think next year I will still be doing PawPrint simply because I love to write. I think the rest of this year will be very successful for PawPrint.

Brittany Johnson, Editor
Hi there, my name is Brittany Johnson. This is my third year on the Alcovy PawPrint staff, which makes me an editor this year, along with three other intelligent young ladies. This year we have a staff of fifteen, and I look forward to seeing the types of articles that they become interested in writing. I, myself, enjoy writing Op-Eds. They are by far the longest and the most opinionated pieces of our newspaper, which is why I enjoy them so much; I am a very opinionated person. So far, I have really enjoyed being an editor of the school newspaper, and I really look forward to seeing what the year brings. Besides writing for the PawPrint, I enjoy going to church, hanging out with my friends, and, of course, going shopping. I plan to go to college once I finish high school, even though I am still undecided about my future career. My dream college would have to be Southeastern University; it is a Christian college located in Florida. I have big dreams for myself and for the newspaper. We are going places.
